What We Do

The three earthworks scopes we run most often on Southern Cape projects.

Site Clearance & Demolition

Vegetation clearance, tree removal, stump-grinding, existing structure demolition, and site stripping of topsoil ready for civils. All waste removed to licensed disposal.

Bulk Cut & Fill

Large-volume cut and fill to achieve the design platform — excavation, haulage, placement of engineered fill in layers, compaction to SANS 1200 DM/D, and verification by density testing.

Platform Preparation

Building platforms and civils terraces shaped to the designed levels and falls, compacted to spec, and handed over ready for foundations or layerworks.

How It Works

Site survey and volumes. We survey the existing site against the design levels to calculate accurate cut and fill volumes. Wrong volumes are how earthworks quotes blow out — we get them right up front.
Method statement and programme. Cut-and-fill sequence, haulage routes, stockpile locations, dust control, erosion control, and SHE documentation. Programme committed to in writing.
Plant mobilisation. Excavators, dozers, TLBs, tippers and rollers mobilised to site with fuel bowsers and operator accommodation where needed. Everything certified and insured.
Execute to SANS 1200. Cut and haul sequenced, fill placed in engineered layers at controlled moisture content, rolled with suitable compaction plant to the specified density. Daily quality checks.
Compaction testing and sign-off. Independent density testing at specified frequencies, test results filed for the engineer, and progressive sign-off against the design levels. Handover with as-built survey.

Common Questions

What is SANS 1200 and why does it matter?

SANS 1200 is the South African standard for civil engineering construction — the reference used by consulting engineers to specify and accept earthworks and civils. Working to SANS 1200 means your job will pass independent inspection and your engineer will sign it off.

Do you handle environmental authorisations?

For sites within environmentally sensitive areas or where volumes trigger an EIA, environmental authorisation is required before work starts. We don’t issue EIAs ourselves, but we work within the constraints and coordinate with your environmental consultant.

How do you control dust and erosion?

Dust is controlled with water bowsers during dry earthworks. Erosion is controlled with silt fences, berms, and sequenced stripping to minimise exposed surface area during the rainy season. Both are part of the method statement.

Can you work on sloped or difficult sites?

Yes — the Garden Route has plenty of sloped sites and we have the plant and experience for terracing, benching, and controlled earthworks on slopes. Safety and erosion control are planned into the method from day one.
