Inspection & NDT in Confined Spaces

Visual, UT, MPI and other NDT inside tanks, vessels, silos and pressure systems — executed by technicians trained in confined space entry, rope access, and the relevant NDT method.

Cleaning, Repair & Coating

High-pressure cleaning, localised repair, weld overlay and internal coating inside confined spaces. Full containment, ventilation, gas monitoring and material control.

Rescue Standby & Entry Support

Stand-alone confined space rescue teams supporting other contractors’ entries — gas testing, rescue equipment, trained rescuers and documentation to meet the GMR 5 (Driven Machinery Regulations) requirement.

How It Works

Risk & permit. Confined space risk assessment, isolation verification, atmospheric test plan, and permit-to-work issued with the asset owner before any entry happens. No shortcuts on this step.
Ventilation & gas monitoring. Mechanical ventilation where needed, continuous gas monitoring at the entry and in the breathing zone, and pre-entry atmosphere confirmation against OEL limits.
Entry with rescue in place. Standby rescuer and retrieval system rigged before the entry, continuous communication with the attendant, and written entry/exit log maintained throughout.
Execute the scope. Inspection, cleaning, NDT, welding, or coating executed by the competent technician. Work paused and space evacuated if atmosphere changes or any other unsafe condition develops.
Close the permit. Space checked, tools accounted for, permit closed with the asset owner, and the entry log filed with the job records.

Common Questions

What regulation covers confined space entry in South Africa?

The OHS Act General Safety Regulations and the General Machinery Regulations apply, along with SANS 10400 where relevant. Every entry needs a risk assessment, permit, atmospheric testing, attendant and rescue provision. We work to this framework on every job.

Do you provide the rescue team as well?

Yes — we provide confined space rescue teams either as a standalone service supporting another contractor’s entries, or bundled with our own work scope. All rescuers are trained in confined space rescue and first aid.

Can you enter tanks that have held hydrocarbons or chemicals?

Yes, with the correct preparation — the tank has to be cleaned, purged, and gas-tested before entry. We work with specialist cleaning contractors where needed and don’t enter a space that isn’t certified safe.

Do you do rope access inside confined spaces?

Yes — IRATA rope access is often the right access method inside tall vessels, silos and vertical shafts. It combines with the confined space controls (gas testing, permits, rescue) rather than replacing them.
