What We Do
The four NDT methods we deploy most often on rope access jobs.
Visual Testing (VT)
Close-visual inspection of welds, connections, and surfaces per ISO 17637. Formal VT reports with defect mapping. The foundation of every NDT programme — done properly, not just a glance.
Magnetic Particle & Liquid Penetrant
MT for surface and near-surface defects on ferromagnetic steel (welds, shafts, lifting lugs). PT for surface defects on any material, including stainless and non-ferrous. Per ISO 9934 / ISO 3452.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Wall thickness surveys, weld integrity inspection, lamination checks, and corrosion mapping. Conventional UT and, where required, phased array UT and TOFD for higher coverage and defect sizing.
Advanced NDT
PAUT, TOFD, eddy current on coated surfaces, and corrosion-under-insulation (CUI) surveys. Level II and III technicians, all ISO 9712 / SAIW qualified.
How It Works
- Inspection plan. Scope, extent, method, acceptance standard, and reporting format agreed before mobilisation. ITP signed off where required.
- Qualified personnel. Technicians verified for the method (Level II or III per ISO 9712), with current SAIW certification. Certificates in the QA pack.
- Calibrated equipment. Every instrument calibrated within validity period, with calibration certificates in the QA pack. No ‘borrowed’ or out-of-cal gear.
- Test and record. Testing per the method-specific procedure, results recorded on standard reports, defects mapped and classified against the acceptance standard.
- Report. Formal NDT reports by method, signed by the Level II/III technician, with photographs and defect maps. Delivered to the client’s QA system.
Common Questions
What’s the advantage of doing NDT on rope?
Speed, cost, and access. No scaffold or MEWP, fewer people on site, and the technician can reach any point on a structure without rigging miles of temporary access. For inspection programmes on tall or complex assets, rope-access NDT typically saves 50–70% versus scaffolded inspection.
Are your technicians SAIW certified?
Yes — Level II or III per ISO 9712 / SAIW for each method they perform. Certification is verified before mobilisation and attached to the inspection report.
Can you do PAUT and TOFD on rope?
Yes — phased array UT and TOFD are deployable on rope with the right rigging and a technician qualified for both the method and the rope work. We’ve done this on pressure vessels, stacks, and structural welds.
Do you supply the inspection report to a specific client format?
Yes — we report in the client’s format (ISO, ASME, API, in-house) or a standard TSCPM format with all the required fields. Handover includes the signed method report, technician quals, and equipment cal certs.
