What We Do
The four geotechnical stabilisation scopes we deliver by rope.
Rock Scaling & Loose Removal
Manual and mechanical removal of loose rock and unstable blocks from cuttings and natural slopes, reducing rockfall risk. Controlled, sequenced, and documented.
Soil Nailing & Rock Bolting
Installation of soil nails and rock bolts to the engineer’s design — drilling, grouting, head plates, and load testing where specified. Full QA documentation.
Shotcrete Application
Structural and non-structural shotcrete (sprayed concrete) to stabilise soil and rock faces, applied by rope-access nozzlemen. Often combined with mesh and nails for the full stabilisation system.
Slope Drainage
Installation of weep holes, subsoil drains, and horizontal drains to relieve water pressure behind stabilised slopes. Often the difference between a slope that holds and one that doesn’t.
How It Works
- Geotechnical design. Work begins from the geotechnical engineer’s design — nail pattern, bolt spec, shotcrete mix and thickness, drainage detail. We don’t freelance on stabilisation design.
- Access and sequencing. Top-down scaling first, then anchor installation, then shotcrete and drainage. Sequencing minimises rework and keeps exposed face short-lived.
- Drill and grout. Handheld or remote-operated drills on rope, hole cleaning, grout mixing, and nail/bolt installation to design depth and angle. Grout takes checked before load testing.
- Mesh and shotcrete. High-tensile mesh pinned, shotcrete sprayed to design thickness in layers, surface finished to spec, and drainage features formed.
- Testing and handover. Nail/bolt load tests per the ITP, shotcrete core samples where required, as-built records, and handover to the engineer for acceptance.
Common Questions
Can you stabilise an active slope?
Yes — with the right sequencing and monitoring. Active slopes need the engineer’s input and may require real-time monitoring during stabilisation. We work within the engineer’s method and monitoring plan.
Do you supply the design?
No — we work to the geotechnical engineer’s design. Where you don’t have one, we can recommend consultancies we’ve worked with and coordinate the design under a design-and-build arrangement.
How deep are your soil nails / rock bolts?
Typically 3–12m depending on the design. We run the drills and installation; design is the engineer’s call.
Is shotcrete on rope as durable as formed concrete?
Yes — when mix, thickness and curing are controlled correctly. Shotcrete is structurally specified by the engineer for this application and is a mature, durable solution for slope stabilisation worldwide.
