Roads Built to Last

Estate roads, internal access roads and private road construction on private property across the Garden Route. We build the full road structure — sub-base, base, surfacing, kerbing and stormwater — to SANS 1200 specification with independent density testing at each layer.

Most road problems come from layerworks shortcuts: under-compacted sub-base, wrong material selection, or missing density tests. We don’t shortcut that. Every layer gets tested, every test result goes into the handover pack, and the engineer signs off before the next layer goes on.

What Road Construction Covers

How a Road Build Runs

1. Site visit & design review

Walk the route, review the engineer’s drawings, check levels and access, and produce a bill of quantities.

2. Programme & contract

Line-item quote, fixed programme, payment schedule and a proper JBCC or NEC4 contract.

3. Build, test & hand over

Layered construction with density testing at each stage, engineer sign-off, final surfacing and handover with as-built drawings and test results.

Road Construction FAQs

What kinds of roads do you build?

Private estate roads, internal access roads on developments, private driveways on big properties, farm roads and commercial site roads. We don’t tender for public highway work, but we deliver any private road scope up to municipal standard.

Do you do asphalt or only block paving?

Both. Asphalt concrete for higher-traffic internal roads, block paving for lower-traffic and aesthetic areas, and double seal for more economical private roads. We’ll recommend what fits the use and the budget.

Why does layerworks matter so much?

Because everything sits on top of it. If the sub-base is under-compacted or the material is wrong, the surface will fail within a few years regardless of how good the asphalt or paving is. That’s why SANS 1200 ME specifies exact material, compaction, and testing requirements — and why we stick to them.

Who does the density testing?

Independent accredited laboratory — not us. That way there’s no conflict of interest. Test results are handed over as part of the as-built pack on completion.

Can you do small private driveways too?

Yes. A 20m estate driveway gets the same layerworks approach as a 500m estate road, just smaller. The quote scales with the work.
