What We Do

The three abrasive blasting applications we run on rope.

Spot Blasting for Coating Repair

Localised blasting of corroded areas or failed coating spots, preparing the substrate for touch-up or spot re-coat. Typical on ongoing asset maintenance programmes.

Full-Surface Blasting (Localised Zones)

Full Sa2½ blasting of defined zones where the entire coating system is being renewed but scaffold is impractical. Containment and waste collection planned per environmental rules.

Rust Removal & Profile Preparation

Rust removal and profile preparation to the required surface standard (ISO 8501-1) for the coating system to be applied. Profile measured with comparator and testex tape, results recorded.

How It Works

  1. Method statement and permits. Blasting is noisy, dusty and hazardous — the method statement addresses containment, environmental protection, PPE, and access for the blast operator. Permits from the client before starting.
  2. Containment and waste. Where required, containment screens and waste collection sheeting installed. Spent abrasive collected and disposed to licensed facilities. Environmental monitoring if stipulated.
  3. Blasting. Abrasive blasting with suitable media (aluminium oxide, garnet, chilled iron grit — whatever the coating spec requires). Operator in full blast-hood with supplied breathing air.
  4. Inspection and sign-off. Surface profile measured, cleanliness compared to comparator, signed off by the coating inspector before coating starts.
  5. Clean-down and handover. Area vacuumed and cleaned, containment removed, waste manifested, and handover to the coating team on the same or following shift.

Common Questions

Can blasting be done on rope safely?

Yes, with appropriate controls — double-rope backup rated for the conditions, containment, supplied breathing air, heat-protected fall arrest, and proper rescue planning. We train and equip specifically for rope-access blasting.

What abrasive do you use?

Depends on the coating spec and environmental constraints. Garnet is the most common choice for profile and low dust. Aluminium oxide for harder surfaces. No silica sand.

How do you handle waste abrasive?

Collected under containment, manifested, and disposed to licensed landfill or recycling facility per the local waste regulations. Disposal receipts in the job file.

Is full-structure blasting possible on rope?

Technically yes, but usually not efficient — for full re-blast of a large asset, scaffold and containment is typically faster. Rope blasting shines for spot work and zones conventional access can’t reach.
