Close-Visual Under-Deck Inspection

Under-deck and soffit inspection by rope, with close-visual assessment of concrete surfaces, bearings, expansion joints, steelwork and drainage. Photographic defect log and condition report per the engineer’s template.

NDT on Piers, Cables & Steelwork

Rebound hammer testing, half-cell potential, cover meter surveys and UT wall-thickness on pier concrete and bridge steelwork. MT and PT on stay cables, welds and connection plates.

Routine & Principal Inspections

Routine (annual) and principal (detailed) inspections to the relevant transport authority standard. Condition scoring, defect classification, repair prioritisation, and consolidated report for the asset owner.

How It Works

  1. Inspection brief. We start from the asset owner’s inspection manual — scope, grading system, deliverable format, and any site-specific safety rules. The deliverable has to fit the authority’s system.
  2. Safe access plan. Traffic management where needed, anchor survey and selection, double-rope rigging, rescue plan, and full SHE file. Signed off by the client before mobilisation.
  3. Systematic walk-down. Every element inspected in a defined sequence — no skipped zones. Defects photographed and geo-tagged against the bridge’s element-numbering system. Measurements recorded live.
  4. NDT as required. Rebound hammer, half-cell potential, cover meter, UT, MT, PT — deployed per the inspection brief. Instruments calibrated and certificates on file.
  5. Reporting. Full condition report — executive summary, defect register, photographs, NDT results, repair recommendations, and prioritisation. Delivered in the owner’s preferred format.

Common Questions

Why use rope access for bridge inspection?

Faster mobilisation, much lower cost than scaffold or under-bridge inspection unit (UBIU) hire, and less traffic disruption because no lane closure is usually required. For most routine and principal inspections, rope access is the most efficient method.

Can you close a lane if needed?

Yes — we can coordinate traffic management and lane closures where the inspection location requires it, typically on higher-traffic routes. Most bridge work can be done from the sides or under-deck without lane closure.

Do you report in SANRAL / provincial format?

Yes — we report in the format specified by the asset owner (SANRAL, provincial roads department, municipal authority, private concession), including condition scoring and defect categorisation to their manual.

Can you inspect cable-stayed or suspension bridges?

Yes — rope access is particularly well-suited to stay-cable and suspension cable inspection, where conventional access is essentially impossible. Visual, instrumented and NDT inspection on ropes or with rope access.
