What We Do
The three rope-access welding applications we run most often.
Structural Steel Welding
Repair, modification and re-plating of structural steelwork at height — piperack, conveyor, process structure, vessels and bridges. Coded welders to relevant specs (ASME IX, EN 287, ISO 9606).
Pipe & Pressure Welding
Pipework modifications, repairs and new tie-ins on rope, with appropriate qualifications and WPS for the process and material. Post-weld inspection by NDT technicians on the same rope team where required.
Fabrication & Installation
Fabrication of brackets, clamps, handrails, platforms and access steelwork, installed in place by the rope team — reducing crane and scaffold cost dramatically on inaccessible structures.
How It Works
- Scope and safe-access plan. Task walk-down with the client, risk assessment, rescue plan, hot-work permit process, and fire-watch arrangements — all before any welder leaves the ground.
- Welder qualification check. Welders verified against the applicable code and the specific WPS for the job. Only coded welders work on critical applications. Certificates filed for the client’s QA pack.
- Rigging and hot-work isolation. Double-rope access installed, hot-work area isolated, combustibles removed or protected, fire watch posted. Consumables hauled safely. No work starts until all controls are in place.
- Weld and inspect. Welding to the WPS, visual inspection on completion, NDT (VT/MT/PT/UT) as required by the inspection plan. Non-conformances reworked and re-inspected.
- Handover with QA pack. As-built sketches, WPS, welder quals, NDT reports, heat numbers, hot-work permits — complete QA pack handed to the client’s inspection authority.
Common Questions
Can welding really be done safely on rope?
Yes — when the procedures are right. IRATA-trained welders, correct fire-watch and hot-work controls, double-rope backup, fall protection rated for heat, and a proper rescue plan. We do this routinely across industrial and marine environments.
What coding do your welders hold?
Depends on the job. Most common: ASME IX, EN 287-1, ISO 9606-1 for structural and piping. We match the welder’s coding to the specific WPS and material combination before mobilising.
Can you handle inspection on the same team?
Yes — we have IRATA + NDT cross-qualified technicians who can perform visual, MT, PT, and UT inspection on the same rope as the welding work, keeping the scope tight and reducing mobilisations.
Do you work offshore?
Yes — offshore platforms, FPSOs, and vessels in the South African EEZ and into sub-Saharan African waters. OPITO BOSIET and offshore-specific medicals where required.
