What We Do
The three stormwater scopes we handle most often.
Piped Stormwater Drainage
Concrete and HDPE stormwater pipes, manholes, catchpits, kerb inlets, and discharge structures — laid to design gradients, bedded correctly, and tested before backfill.
Channels, Swales & Open Drainage
Concrete-lined and grassed channels, swales, and open drainage ditches. Cost-effective where pipes aren’t justified and visible drainage is acceptable.
Attenuation & SUDS
Attenuation ponds, detention tanks, infiltration trenches, and sustainable urban drainage features. Required increasingly by municipalities to limit peak runoff from new developments.
How It Works
- Design review. We work from the civil engineer’s drawings — pipe sizes, invert levels, gradients, structure schedules, and discharge points. Everything is dimensioned before we start.
- Excavation and bedding. Trenches excavated to design depth with correct side slopes. Pipes bedded on granular material, not dumped on raw ground. Correct bedding is where stormwater jobs succeed or fail.
- Pipe laying and structures. Pipes laid to design gradient, joints sealed per manufacturer spec, manholes and catchpits built to detail. Every section inspected before backfill.
- Backfill and compaction. Selected backfill placed in layers and compacted, with particular attention around the pipe haunches to prevent later settlement. Surface restored to match.
- Testing and handover. Line surveyed and checked against design levels. Pipe integrity confirmed. As-built drawings issued. Handover with the written workmanship guarantee.
Common Questions
Why does my property flood in heavy rain?
Usually one of: undersized or blocked stormwater pipes, no attenuation, adjacent development changing the runoff, or poor site drainage directing water against the house. We investigate the source before proposing a fix.
What are SUDS and are they required?
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems — infiltration, attenuation, swales, permeable surfaces. George Municipality and many other Western Cape municipalities increasingly require SUDS on new developments to limit runoff to greenfield rates. We design and build to the requirement.
Do you install catchpits and manholes?
Yes — precast or cast-in-place to the engineer’s detail. All structures built to SANS 1200 LE with correct connections, frame and cover, and bedding.
Can you fix an existing stormwater problem?
Yes — we investigate, diagnose, and quote the fix. Sometimes it’s unblocking and re-grading, sometimes it’s upsizing pipes or adding catchpits, sometimes it’s a new attenuation feature. We recommend what actually solves the problem, not what’s easiest to sell.
